Good old fashioned baking soda works like a charm for getting clothes clean. Just add about 1 cup for a normal load of laundry (less for a small load). It leaves clothes clean and odorless. And it's gentle enough to use on newborn clothes. I buy my big boxes of baking soda at Walmart for under $3.
If you miss your old laundry detergent scent try this:
4 drops of lavender (or lemon) essential oil added to the final rinse
