Is Your Soap Making You Sick?

It turns out that good old fashioned hand washing with good old fashioned soap is healthier than using antibacterial soaps. Antibacterial soaps all contain an antimicrobial (germ killer) called triclosan. There are a few potential problems with triclosan:
  1. It mimics testosterone in the body, potentially causing infertility and other troubles in men. Read more here.
  2. May cause bacteria to become more resistant leading to stronger and stronger bacteria, often called super germs
  3. Shows no health benefits over soap and water. Read more here.
What can you do?
  1. Wash your hands for 20 seconds (just sing the "ABC's" once through), scrubbing well, especially under your fingernails
  2. Out with the old and in with the new. Toss your soaps and go natural. A few brands we like:
We use Dr. Bronner's in the shower and in our bathroom soap dispensers.
You can find it at Henry's, Mother's and Trader Joe's.
