Green Smoothies

Shane and I did a smoothie fast last Saturday and Sunday...just to give our bodies a break from food. We discovered that green smoothies are pretty tasty. If it wasn't for the color you'd never know you're drinking something with leafy green vegetables in it. For all you mamas out there, our 3-year-old Sage was diggin' the smoothies.

Here are 2 recipe we liked:

Tropical Greens
  • 1 quarter to 1 half fresh pineapple (can use frozen)
  • 3 leaves of Kale (deveined)
  • 1 ripe banana (can use frozen)
  • 1 quarter to 1 half inch of fresh ginger root (can use dry), to taste
  • 2 cups water
  1. Place all ingredients in blender. Start out with only enough water to cover everything about half-way (allows it to blend to a creamy consistency). After all creamy, add more water to get to the thickness you prefer

"Peachy Green" Smoothie (makes 2 quarts)

  • 2 c. spinach (2 nice big handfuls)
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 c. ice
  • 2 very ripe bananas
  • 2 peaches (pitted but not peeled)
  • 2 TBS honey, or to taste
  1. Place spinach and water in blender and blend.
  2. Add the peaches, banana, honey and ice. Add each ingredient at a time, giving them their time in blender spotlight.
*we also threw some frozen strawberries in
